The Clinical Applications Specialist acts independently to provide specific training and clinical support related to the acquisition, implementation, and use of assigned Clinical and Population health applications /systems modules and toolset such as Healthy Planet. Applications Specialists apply specific clinical, population health and/or analytical knowledge and expertise to modify and enhance system/application modules, as well as identify and implement optimal system solutions. The Clinical Applications Specialist also serves as the primary build team subject matter expert (SME) for Quality Measures and works collaboratively with Physician champions, Quality & Performance Improvement Informatics and various internal information services teams to carry out the implementation of population health and/or ambulatory projects related to Epic clinical, healthy planet and reporting tools such as alerts, health maintenance, registries, metrics, reporting workbench, dashboards, etc. necessary to support quality reporting programs (ACO, MIPS, P4P, 5-Star etc.). Incumbent team members function as key liaisons for user contact and customer service on behalf of information services and are accountable for end-user satisfaction.  The incumbent will also collaborate with business intelligence and regulatory teams in developing reports, monitoring and analyzing performance related to various quality reporting programs. Individuals in this job classification may also assist in the development of training materials and may participate as educators for end-users as related to specific information systems and services.  Clinical Applications Specialists provide feedback and may make recommendations to management and project directors, ensuring that the organization’s goals, philosophies, and objectives are optimally supported by information technology. The clinical application specialists work closely with business leadership to understand the short and long-term business plans, elicit requirements, work with leadership to identify and implement technology solutions to support plans.

  • Specific credentialing in application modules such as EpicCare Ambulatory and Healthy Planet and/or technologies, (i.e. Epic).
  • Working knowledge of Epic’s registry framework including but not limited to how to implement Epic standard registries, modifying registries metrics, and developing custom registries based on business and clinical needs.
  • Working knowledge of PCs, collaborative computing tools, re-engineering/process improvement techniques, healthcare information management, general information architectures and technology, systems integration, laws, and regulations relevant to assigned applications.
  • Minimum of 4 years progressive nursing, pharmacy and/or exceptional clinical IT experience, significant and successful clinical project management.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with three or more of the following: Meaningful Use, Accountable Care Organizations, value-based purchasing, pay for performance, clinical content, clinical decision support, clinical quality measures
  • Knowledge of healthcare and evolving industry standards/challenges.
  • High energy levels and tolerance of tight deadlines, time pressures, and ambiguity


  • BS degree in clinical or discipline or equivalent business experience in a related field preferred. Licensure as RN, Pharmacy, Laboratory, MRA or other healthcare business area preferred.
