Position Summary

The Genetic Counselors is responsible to evaluate and counsel individuals and families regarding cancer risk and risk management including those at risk of hereditary disease. Assists with the collection of all program data and design of clinical trials as necessary. The Genetic Counselor will provide and report to supervisor genetic expert content on accreditation by government, professional agencies and financial reimbursement requirements in support of genetic program initiatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Collection of family histories, construction of accurate pedigrees, and coordinates lab draws for testing
  • Pedigree assessment and recognition of cancer susceptibility syndromes (risk analysis calculations)
  • Post-test counseling, risk management, including review of medical management options
  • Follow company policies, procedures and directives
  • Interact in a positive and constructive manner
  • Prioritize and multitask

Essential Job Outcomes:

  • Intake of patient counseling and testing to meet all aspects of program(s) productivity outcomes
  • Support patient downstream treatment and productivity outcomes
  • Build physician relations and support all aspects of CRPP market share
  • Participate in marketing and community outreach including presentations, health fairs, support groups, marketing to referring physicians in an effective manner
  • Ensure billing of services is complete and accurate
  • Participates in monitoring quality outcomes to improve services provided
  • Participate in clinical research
  • Participate in tumor board and breast care conferences on a weekly basis, attends Cancer Committee
  • Keeps current in healthcare trends and research in genetics testing
  • Addresses the age specific needs of all populations served
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: 

Experience

  • One or more years in cancer genetics counseling, preferred
  • Individual will be skilled in counselling and testing of genetic risk.
  • Advising of pedigree and/or testing outcome of hereditary disease in partnership with physician
  • Billing and reconciliation of insurance process and payment

Education

  • Completion of training in formal Genetic counseling program Master�s degree
  • American Board of Genetics Counseling/Licensed Genetic Counselor
  • New graduate must have a temporary license assigned from the CDPH, required
  • And completion of permanent license from the CDPH within 9 months of hire
