Purpose Statement/Position Summary

The Manager, Physician Quality, Professionalism and Patient Safety interfaces cross-organizational areas throughout Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children�s and Women�s Hospital in managing a wide breath of responsibilities across the Quality Department & Medical Staff Office. The position reports to the Vice President Quality and Patient Safety and works directly with the Chief Quality Officer and the Chief Medical Officers. Responsibilities include education training of medical staff services, including chairs and chiefs, on the use and communication of physician driven outcomes. Gathers, analyzes and organizes data into usable formats to assist the medical staff in developing actionable plans and manage both the implementation process and ongoing work stream operations for new and existing projects. Responsibility, oversight and daily management of the physician peer review process (MPEC�s), Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE). Oversight of the physician professionalism program.The position requires the ability to foster and maintain excellent physician relations and collaborate with other members of the management team and medical staff leadership.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

PHYSICIAN PEER REVIEW SYSTEM: (Multi-specialty Physician Excellence Committees � MPEC�s).Manages 5 different MPEC�s, and the MPEC Steering Committee (Solely at LBMC).Coordinates all peer review cases, assignment to reviewers, ensures timely reviews, creation of agendas and meeting books, follow-through, notification, and referrals to chairs of departments and involved physicians and referrals to other medical center leadership as needed.Attends all meetings and runs with the committee chairs.

PHYSICIAN PROFESSIONALISM SYSTEM: aka Vanderbilt Co-worker Observation Reporting System (CORS) and Patient Advocacy Reporting System (PARS), (Solely at LBMC) � Manages the system at LBMC, key liaison with Vanderbilt�s Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy and medical staff leadership for professionalism issues. Responsible for reviewing all physician professionalism reports, reviews with co-chairs of professionalism committee, consolidate professionalism data for reporting to medical staff leadership. Assign messengers based on campus and medical staff specialty and seniority and ensures follow-through of reports by ensuring messages delivered, feedback from messengers, and review of deliveries and feedback notes with professionalism committee chairs.

CRIMSON TO SUPPORT MULTIPLE CLINICAL SERVICE LINES/CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE with clinical outcomes.Crimson is a data physician performance data management platform.Crimson provides clinical data such as length of stay, complications, and resource utilization � Position will have dual responsibility to both manage crimson data projects and back up extraction of information, analysis, manipulation and presentation of crimson data for select projects.Currently has extracted, analyzed and created service line metrics and outcomes for colorectal, obstetrics, cardiothoracic, and joint and spine and presented this data to senior administration.

MEDICATION RECONCILIATION: Manage the analysis, distribution of results, and discussion with individual practitioners concerning physician adherence to completing medication reconciliation at admission and discharge across 3 campuses and to over 1200 physicians.Manages performance improvement efforts to maximize medication reconciliation at admission and discharge of patients.

MORTALITY & MORBIDITY CONFERENCES: Managing the standardization of processes and collection, retention and distribution of data and learnings from M&M�s focusing on opportunities for improvement across the care spectrum.

  • Minimum years of experience 2 years
  • Have intermediate to advanced knowledge of project management software, such as Microsoft Project.  Advances knowledge of various software programs such as Microsoft Office, Visio, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.  Able to effectively determine communication styles of team members who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.  Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excel at directing, working and communicating with internal and external staff of all levels
  • Ability to successfully apply Lean methodology in alignment with team objectives to enhance current processes across the system.
  •  Excel both at working independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Able to conform to shifting priorities and timelines through analytical and problem solving capabilities.  Reacts to project adjustments promptly and efficiently.

  • Bachelor's or advances degree in Business Administration, Economics, Healthcare related profession, Computer Science, Information Systems
