Position Summary:

The Physical Therapist II evaluates and treats patients to promote recovery from, and positive adaptations to, physical deficits caused by injury or illness in the Rehab Therapies department at MemorialCare Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach.  He/she develops, implements, and oversees a patient's individualized therapy plan, aiming to facilitate the highest levels of physical independence and recovery.  The Physical Therapist II seeks input from the patient and family to ensure that the therapy plan directly addresses patient concerns regarding improving movement and managing pain.  He/she actively participates in departmental program development and educational training for students and new hires.

Under general supervision, the per diem Physical Therapist II conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements treatment, and provides care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs.  Demonstrates flexibility and good communication skills and collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. This position is for weekend and holiday coverage.  Requires minimum two (2) weekend shifts in a four (4) week schedule, one (1) minor holiday shift and one (1) major holiday shift per year (major = Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year�s) (minor = Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day).  

Qualifications: 

Minimum Requirements:

  • California Physical Therapy license is required.A Master's degree in Physical Therapy or equivalent advanced degree from an acceptable Physical Therapy program is required.
  • A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) certification is required.
  • Miller�s Pediatric - CCS Panel approved or working to fulfill requirements.
  • 2+ years of experience in pediatrics, preferably in a hospital setting. 
  • Must demonstrate aptitude and skills in developing clinical education for students, trainees, and other affiliated staff.
  • American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) membership and California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) membership is recommended.
