Purpose Statement / Position Summary Provide a summary of the position describing the primary objective of the position (e.g. Why does the position exist). This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with our core values: Integrity, Accountability, Best Practices, Compassion and Synergy. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. Utilizing the nursing process and clinical nursing practice standards, the RN is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care for the Operating Room patient in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Surgical Services and the Nursing Departments. Responsibilities include directing unlicensed employee activity, synthesizing patient information, assessment of patients, planning of care/interventions, teaching patients/family, implementation of treatment plan/MD orders, and evaluation of care rendered. Furthermore, this position serves as the subject matter expert in providing surgical assistance in a safe, appropriate and effective manner. Additional responsibilities include but not limited to: provision of availability/maintenance of instruments, adherence to aseptic technique, advanced knowledge of surgical procedures and support to patient flow within department and designate service line. The RN must effectively communicate and document data relevant to the care of the patient. Provides support and communicates directly with surgical team and management staff. The OR Clinical Coordinator must use effective oral communication and participate in aspects of documentation. In addition, this position collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.   1. Utilizes the nursing process and AORN standards as a framework for the management of patient care.
  2. Analyzes the assessment data to determine a nursing diagnosis and appropriate interventions. 
  3. Demonstrates leadership in the coordination of patient care across the healthcare continuum with progress towards meeting desired patient outcomes. 
  4. Delegates to licensed and unlicensed personnel. 
  5. Demonstrates the ability to utilize effective critical thinking skills. 
  6. Proactively assesses department operational needs and provides necessary information, supplies, and updates accordingly. 
  7. Supports and participates in effective change processes for the unit and seeks opportunities for enhancements. 
  8. Attends and provides department-specific education, training, and in-services. 
  9. Prioritizes essential functions. 
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation. 
  11. Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
