Position Summary

The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) is responsible for developing and implementing key strategic initiatives within the MemorialCare Health System consistent with our mission and vision. The CSO is a key advisor to the CEO and leads efforts to define and execute strategic initiatives and driving decisions, which may include utilizing statistical analysis to support innovative projects, interpreting research to identify new services or transformation of services, and recommending opportunities for business development, partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions.  Lead discussions on key strategic initiatives as directed by the CEO.  The Chief Strategy Officer “CSO” is responsible for providing strong, effective, and inspired leadership

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

Strategic:

  • Develops an inclusive strategic plan and strategy by collaborating with the System Executive Council, leadership team, board members and executives.
  • Successfully executes system and local strategies that are aligned with and support the organization’s mission, vision, values, and objectives.
  • Identify Strategic Initiatives that have the potential to favorably impact the Health System and be accretive to our performance and beneficial to our market position.
  • Analyzes market dynamics, market share changes, product line performance, and competitive intelligence.
  • Utilizes external data, projections, and modeling to improve insights about the future of health care (1, 3, 5, & 10 years out); identifies trends and developments that could result in strategic opportunities for the organization.
  • Identifies key capital projects, joint ventures, and other strategic partnership opportunities.
  • Identifies strategic risksby conducting a system-wide SWOT analysis for each line of Business, as they relate to MemorialCare’ s vision & strategic plan.
  • Communicates strategy effectively throughout the company.
  • Ensures suitable metrics are in place to measure performance and progress.
  • Monitors execution of system and campus-based business initiatives.

Operations:

  • Successfully performs a leadership role in the direction, monitoring, and support of all areas of responsibility.
  • Continually identifies opportunities for employee and process improvements and ensures additional orientation, training, and skill development is provided on an ongoing basis, either through direct involvement or delegation to the department management team.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all department functions are staffed appropriately via established industry benchmarks and leads and supports the management team as needed in establishing a department culture while meeting or exceeding objectives related to staffing and performance standards.
  • Champions a culture of open, clear communication and collaboration. Leads by example interdepartmentally, interdepartmentally and with external customers and organizations.
  • In conjunction with management teams in areas of responsibility leads staff toward the development of new programs designed to enhance departmental operations and/or create alignment with corporate strategic goals.
  • Consistently supports compliance by maintaining privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and license requirements (if applicable), and current MCMF and MHS policies and procedures.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

·         Minimum of 8 years’ experience in strategic planning and business development, preferably over multiple hospitals in a mid to large health system

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree required

·         Master's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field preferred.
