Position Summary

This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The LVN in the Emergency Services department is responsible for providing patient care in a safe and effective manner under the direct supervision of an assigned RN. Additional responsibilities include collaboration with the Emergency Department support staff, synthesizing patient information, collection and documentation of patient data, reviewing discharge instructions, implementing treatment plan/MD orders, and documenting and evaluating per unit standards. Collaboration between healthcare team members and integration of patient care standards are incorporated into all clinical activities. 

Essential Functions

·Gathers information related to health care needs. Under the direction of the RN, follows a data collection process that is systematic, includes psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and other factors and is ongoing, determined by the patient’s immediate condition or needs, and involves the patient, family, significant others, and health care providers when appropriate,.

·Implements a plan of care as determined by the RN to meet the patient’s nursing needs and expected outcomes.

·Identifies, develops and implements an action plan for self-development.

·Identifies subtle as well as obvious patient problems and reports abnormal findings to supervising RN. Addresses the age specific needs of all populations served: adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

·Reinforce patient and family education provided by the RN regarding discharge instructions, medication usage, and follow-up care.

·Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team, demonstrating empathy and respect.

·Collaborate effectively with the RN, physicians, ED technicians, paramedics, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care.

·Competently utilizes Reddinet emergency medical communication system.

·Ability to be at work and on time.

·Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.

·Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.

·Ability to prioritize and multitask.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Experience

·       One year experience working as an LVN in an acute care hospital or emergency department setting preferred.

·       Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

Education

·         Licensed Vocational Nurse Certification required

·         Intravenous Therapy and Blood Withdrawal (IVBW) Certification required

·         Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Card required

·         Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Card required

·         Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Card required
