Position Summary

The Telemetry Technician is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse.This position is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides Registered Nurses and /or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.This position is required to perform Unit Secretary duties for the unit as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Prioritizes workload effectively.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.
  • Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
  • Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.
  • Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies.
  • Maintains ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms.
  • Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry Unit.
  • Maintains cleanliness & battery maintenance of telemetry boxes.
  • Notifies clinicians of rate/rhythm changes.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year acute care experience as a telemetry technician or nursing student who has completed the first semester of nursing school preferred.
  • Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience preferred.
  • Proficient in medical terminology

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency preferred
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card
  • Successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia course or successful passing of hospital specific Basic Dysrhythmia Exam
