Position Summary

This position is responsible for the overall direction of the Critical Care and Palliative Care Service lines. The role involves directing, planning, and developing all aspects of unit operations in collaboration with medical staff leadership to achieve clinical and service objectives, fiscal performance targets, and the strategic plan of MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center. 

The Director will oversee staff performance and competence, ensure performance improvement, establish staffing patterns, and manage internal and external relationships at the campus. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for the education and development of staff, as well as the fiscal management of operational and capital budgets. This position must also ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards set forth by County, State, Federal, and other regulatory agencies. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Oversight of all the activities of all Critical Care and Palliative Care management and staff to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and laws. Implements quality services through effective leadership, planning and education. 
  • This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center.
  • Exhibits behavior consistent with the core values of this institution and role models customer service attributes.
  • Supports the strategic plan and the goals and direction of the performance improvement plan.
  • Directs operations in a cost-efficient manner while meeting budget expectations.
  • Works with medical staff leadership to ensure effective and efficient operations of Critical Care and Palliative Care Services
  • Maintains oversight for the recruitment, retention, and scheduling of personnel.
  • Provides oversight for all technology to ensure enhancement of service operations.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in Critical Care Nursing.

3 to 5 years of experience in a Healthcare Management role, specifically in Critical Care

Education/Licensure/Certification:

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
A Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is preferred.
A current and valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Professional Nursing Certification in Critical Care (CCRN) or a related specialty.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.
Current certification in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
