Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center. TheQuality Data Analyst position performs data analyses and interprets results using a variety of techniques to support the Quality Assurance and Patient Relations departments, and performance improvement initiatives.Under the direction of the department leadership, this position is responsible for creating and developing advanced data reports.This position is responsible for managing data collection systems and strategies to optimize data analyses for efficiency and quality.This includes meeting preparation and preparing the data sets in an understandable format for the target audiences and maintaining internal dashboards.Key responsibilities include identifying, analyzing and interpreting data trends or patterns; acquiring data from internal and external data sources and maintaining the efficiency of the databases; collaborating with hospital leaders on data requests for performance improvement initiatives; and maintaining regulatory compliance (ie: The Joint Commission, CMS, HCAHPS).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job 

  1. Produces advanced reports and presentations on quality metrics, conducts drill-down analysis, and generates data reports for management
  2. Demonstrates advanced competency in data entry, collection, abstraction, aggregation, analysis. and transparent communication.
  3. Manages ongoing data analysis and applications to trend overall service line data outcomes, investigate overall system issues, and provides necessary information and resolution.
  4. Coordinates with management to determine the best approach for completing tasks, the appropriate applications to use, and ensures that deliverables are completed on time and meet expectations.
  5. Works collaboratively with report requestors, providing guidance to define requirements and validate results.
  6. Demonstrates advanced computer literacy skills with programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Adobe Acrobat, Publisher, Visio, Tableau, Vizient, and Epic.
  7. Supports implementation of initiatives to improve patient/customer satisfaction.
  8. Collaborates with multiple disciplines to seek resolution to system related problems relating to patient/customer satisfaction.
  9. Aligns all performance improvement initiatives to the strategic plan.
  10. Continually updates skills and knowledge; and serves as the subject matter expert of data applications.
  11. Supports the patient safety and regulatory requirements.
  12. Demonstratesability totrack, manage, organize,and prioritize projects.
  13. Attends department or job-related meetings, presentations and educational events as needed.
  14. Ability toexercisediscretion judgement inthehandling of confidentialand /or sensitiveinformation.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications/Work Experience 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare settings using electronic software systems preferred or cumulative relevant experience
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, Sharepoint, and Outlook
  • Experience in using Tableau Software and interactive dashboard design required
  • Previous experience working with databases, large data sets, multiple data sources and interpreting complex data to create meaningful information
  • Strong understanding of data analysis concepts and report design principles
  • Familiarity with business intelligence (BI) concepts preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and metadata skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, and strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Exceptional time management skills with ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize, organize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Project management skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, business, finance, statistics, mathematics, data science, economics or marketing required
  • Master's degree in related field highly desired; or equivalent work experience
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
