Position Summary
The Orthopedic Technician provides orthopedic patient care services specifically related to casting, bracing and traction. Under the direction of a physician, he/she is responsible for providing orthopedic support care including casting, bracing, and application of traction as needed. The Orthopedic Technician performs these duties with a focus on ensuring patient safety, comfort, and privacy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
·Collaborates with the patient's multidisciplinary healthcare team to schedule casting procedures for orthopedic patients. Determines optimal time for casting so as not to interfere with patient treatments.
·Maintains a clean patient care environment for family, visitors and staff. Maintains a well-stocked orthopedic supply room and notifies appropriate personnel when supplies run low.
·Assists physicians and nurses with orthopedic procedures, including casting, wound care, fracture reductions, and others. Uses current best practices within the orthopedic field in performing patient procedures.
·Accurately gathers revenue information and makes timely entries into Epic system for billing.
·Serves as an informational resource to patients and family regarding casting procedures. Possesses knowledge in the proper use of orthopedic appliances with a focus on ensuring patient safety and recovery.
·Responsible for regular preventative maintenance on all orthopedic equipment. Notifies appropriate personnel whenever a maintenance or safety issue needs to be addressed.
·Performs other duties as assigned.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
· 1+ years prior relevant work experience in orthopedics and casting is preferred. Departmental training may be considered for exceptional candidates.
· Excellent computer skills in a MS Windows environment including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
· Successful completion of Orthopaedic Technician Program is preferred. BLS required.
