The Director, Materials Management will oversee all material resource activities involved in the planning, receipt, distribution, cleaning, storing and managing the replenishment of the supplies and equipment needed to support patient care at MemorialCare’s Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children’s Hospital. The Director, Materials Management provides leadership and direction in establishing operational goals and objectives for the cost centers listed above, in support of MemorialCare and the medical center's strategic plan. The incumbent directs and coordinates services within Material Resources and with other departments and continually assesses and improves the performance of the Material Resources departments under his/her direction. This position also oversees the mailroom and the outsourced linen services.


The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in healthcare or business related field. A minimum of 7-10 years experience in healthcare materials management facilitating the inventory planning, point of use material flow, and up-stream/down-stream supply chain management.

Additional certification in healthcare materials management and/or Lean preferred. Excellent technical, interpersonal, communication and consensus-building skills in an individual who can effectively partner and execute with staff and various departments. Demonstrated service-orientation, with ability to balance needs of the location, organization, and team. Expertise with Title 22, CDPH and Joint Commission accreditation standards as they relate to materials management, department processes and work flows.
