Use a professional font

Stay away from using fancy fonts throughout your resume. Effective fonts like Arial or Times New Roman should be used with the font size ranging between 10 to 12

Choose the appropriate margins

Like a research paper, margins should be set at 1-inch. If you have trouble filling the page work on your line spacing if needed.

Use active language in your resume

Using action verbs and power words will give you resume improved readability; it will keep your resume from sounding stale and keep you work descriptions sounding stronger

Include only relevant information

Don’t include random things such as hobbies, affiliations or certifications that are not relevant to the position you are applying for. Include only work experience, achievements, education and skills most relevant to the employer. Make sure your clinical rotation experience is on your resume.

Call attention to important achievements

Instead of just listing job duties, highlight the top 3 or 4 accomplishments in your current or previous work. You can also create an “Achievements” or “Skills” section with relevant highlights like educational coursework, relevant awards or volunteer experience

Only include subheadings and sections you need

Whether you start from scratch or use a template, only include sections you need. If you have not held any professional positions, it may be better to replace the experience section with relevant coursework, academic achievements and other experiences like internships or volunteer work

Proofread

Before you send out your resume, re-read it for spelling and grammar errors. Read it out loud and also have someone read it for you to make sure you catch any mistakes or address inconsistencies.
