Position Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for the trouble shooting, maintenance of all equipment in the Endoscopy Labs, and proper processing of endoscopes (cleansing and disinfection). Under direction of the RN or physician, assists in diagnostic procedures and collecting data for objective assessment to identify patient needs, problems, or concerns. Additional duties may include, management of linen, supply inventory, transporting of patients, assisting physicians and clerical duties.

Job Specific Competencies

  • Cleans, inspects, maintains all endoscopes, equipment, and supplies using manual cleaning and endoscope reprocessor, which includes but is not limited to, high level disinfectant changes, filter changes and maintenance, and any additional maintenance required.
  • Maintains all daily logs, glutaraldehyde efficacy and changes.
  • Assists physicians and nurses in endoscopic cases.
  • Schedules patient appointments, and processes patient records.
  • Safely transports patients in a timely manner.
  • Collects, prepares and labels specimens during endoscopic procedures.Labels all specimens accurately and prepares/transports specimens according to department protocols.
  • Accurately and cost effectively maintains supplies and linen in procedure rooms, utility rooms, and office areas.Ensures instrument trays and other supplies are sterilized and in stock for procedures.
  • Independently maintains cleanliness of department and equipment.
  • Maintains all equipment in the Endoscopy labs in working order.
  • Acts as a liaison between equipment companies, Bio med, and technical support in maintenance of equipment.
  • Must be able to maintain a good rapport with patients, their families, physicians, office personnel, other Medical Center personnel and the public.
Qualifications: 

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 1-year experience as an Endoscopy Technician
  • Physical Demands include but are not limited to:
  • Ability to be able to perform standing, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting for frequent and prolonged periods.
  • Ability to push, pull and lift a minimum of 100 + lbs.
  • Computer Literacy
  • Good grooming and a neat appearance.
  • Good auditory, visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English, fluently
  • High School Diploma or equivalency or evidence of higher education required.
  • Current American Heart Association BCLS-Healthcare Provider
