The Major Gifts Director provides leadership and direction to a comprehensive program to secure significant new and increased funding support from individuals, families, and corporations to advance the mission of the organization and to build resources in conjunction with the overall strategic development plan of Orange Coast Medical Center Foundation (OCMCF).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Support and operationalize the mission statement, vision and values of OCMCF and ensures that these elements are incorporated into his/her respective role. Strengthens and promotes the public image, mission, philosophy and values of the organization with public and private agencies, individuals and corporations to define the role philanthropy plays in supporting healthcare services and capital needs.  Ensures the effective communication of organizational vision, mission and values to all constituents.
  • Develops a comprehensive strategic major gift fundraising plan detailing goals, objectives and schedules consistent with the vision and mission of OCMCF.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director of OCMCF, manages all aspects of high-level donor and funder relationships, including research, qualification, case statements, cultivation, and stewardship to foster sustaining relationships with OCMCF and its programmatic initiatives.
  • Responsible for developing increasing levels of involvement and support among donors and prospects through cultivation and stewardship through regular correspondence and contacts in person, by telephone, or by mail.Develops written materials associated with major gift donor/funder relationships including proposals and stewardship documents.
  • Provides input for developing revenue goals and performance measures for expanding the major gifts programs and establishing strategic goals and objectives to align with that expansion.
  • Supports the established comprehensive cultivation tracking system for all major gift donors and prospects. Works closely with the Director, Data Management and Prospect Research to ensure the integrity of the donor and prospect files as well as database related to major gifts.

  • Ability to design, implement and direct major gift fundraising initiatives including cultivation, solicitation and recognition strategies and deliver outcomes accordingly.
  • A mature and disciplined self-starter who is able to set objectives, activate plans and manage performance in major gifts fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with top-level business and community leaders.
  • Ability to communicate a compelling and inspired vision and sense of core purpose.Ability to inspire, motivate and marshal resources throughout an organization.Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to positively influence and persuade.
  • A motivated team player that can engage and inspire team members with consistency, integrity and flexibility.
  • Knowledge of acceptable gifts policies and ethical fund development practices, as well as California law governing fund development and professional and public charities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Seven (7) years of related work experience in major gifts fundraising preferable in a healthcare setting
  • Established track record that demonstrates the ability to secure gifts and produce results

Education

  • Bachelor�s Degree in Philanthropic Studies or related field required
  • Professional credential(s) or advanced degree in preferred
