Purpose Statement / Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The Insurance Verifier is under the direction of the Supervisor/ Manager of Admitting. The verifier obtains insurance benefits, eligibility, authorization numbers, and obtains the patients financial responsibility through the Price estimator functionality in Epic. The insurance verifier pre-registers patients compiling accurate demographic, insurance and employer information. The verifier assists in reviewing accounts in the work queues and assists with training new staff. The verifier is knowledgeable of the hospital’s insurance contracts. The verifier promotes a positive team environment and maintains effective working relationships with all customers which includes co-workers, clinicians, patients, and others.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job 

  • Verify Insurance benefits for pre-admissions and admissions.
  • Ability to understand and advise patients of their financial responsibility (co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, etc).
  • Monitor/manages work queues.
  • Maintain effective patient flow and complete the insurance verification process.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain effective working relations with coworkers, office staff and hospital staff members.
  • Ability to be at work and be on time.
  • Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years scheduling experience in a hospital or office setting
  • Must have strong customer service and computer skills.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Medical terminology course preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
