Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with our core values: Integrity, Accountability, Best Practices, Compassion and Synergy. The employee shall support Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The PCA I provides the most basic of patient care including patient data collection, personal hygiene, and assistance with activities of daily living such as ambulating, toileting and feeding. PCA I’s perform tasks as assigned and are instrumental in facilitating departmental/unit flow activities that support patient care and facilitate a safe, clean environment. The PCA I utilizes effective communication and documents data relevant to the care of the patient within their defined scope of practice. The PCA I demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development; as well as incorporating cultural differences, psychosocial and or spiritual needs when providing patient care. In addition, the PCA I collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

·Demonstrates the ability to safely, timely, and competently perform assigned duties.

·Follows directions and communicates with the Registered Nurse and other members of the Healthcare Team in organized, clear and timely manner.

·Collects and documents information pertinent to the patient’s status in the patient’s electronic medical record and notifies Registered Nurse of changes in patient’s condition

·Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive and/or confidential material in printed, electronic or verbal form related to all patient and employee privacy.

·Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.

·Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion at all times

·Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies, proper use of equipment, and maintain educational competencies and licensure.

·Ability to be at work and be on time

·Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives

·Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner 11. Ability to prioritize and multitask

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications/Work Experience:

· Basic computer knowledge preferred

· Minimum of one (1) year of recent Acute Care experience preferred

· Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate or minimum of one (1) year nursing assistant experience or currently enrolled in Nursing Program with successful completion of at least (1) semester preferred

Education/Licensure/Certification:

· High School Diploma or equivalency

· Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Card
