Position Summary
The President, Philanthropic will serve as the chief development officer for Saddleback Medical Center and Orange Coast Medical Center. In this capacity, the President of Philanthropy will plan, manage, lead and execute a comprehensive effort to grow and contribute to revenue by strengthening current fundraising goals, persistent development of new and diverse sources of revenue with emphasis on major gifts.
Essential Functions
Strategic:
Relating to Fund Raising
- Design and supervision of all capital campaigns and or fundraising initiatives benefiting SMC and OCMC and delegation of day-to-day campaign administration to responsible members of the Foundation staff.
- Design and supervision of unique yet interrelated programs to encourage annual giving in support of SMC and OCMC and delegation of day-to-day annual giving operations to responsible members of the Foundation staff.
- Design and supervision of an ongoing program to encourage major and planned giving benefiting SMC and OCMC and delegation of day-to-day programmatic activities to responsible members of the Foundation staff.
- Support to the SMF Board of Directors and staff in the identification, research, cultivation and solicitation of prospective major donors.
- Support to the SMF Board of Directors and staff in the identification, research, cultivation, enlistment and
- orientation of new Board members and other fund-raising volunteers.
Relating to Philanthropic Stewardship
- Support to the SMF Board of Directors in the design and implementation of policies and procedures for gift recording, gift reporting, donor acknowledgement and donor recognition.
- Support to the SMF Board of Directors in the design and implementation of the Foundation's annual operating budget in consideration of generally accepted "cost of fund raising" guidelines.
Operations:
Relating to Administration
- Provide regular presence and support as a leader in the Orange County community as a regular participant among civic organizations and groups at a level that enhances the SMC and OCM local presence and community based objectives.
- Maintenance of SMC and OCMC not-for-profit IRS section 50 I (c)(3) status and SMC and OCM’s public charity IRS section 509(a) status by providing current information to the SMF Board of Directors about governmental requirements relating to fund raising, asset management by public charities, and approved donor gift valuations.
- Implementation of MemorialCare policies and procedures relating to the recruitment, training, performance evaluation and termination of Foundation staff.
- Support to the SMF Board of Directors in the organization of unique committees to satisfy Board approved objectives and goals.
- Participation and collaboration with senior staff of SMC and OCM in corporate strategies including participation in the production of promotional material that enhance fund-raising success benefiting SMC and OCM.
- Collaboration with the senior management team of SMC and OCM with administrative and promotional activities and opportunities aimed toward enhancement of corporate development - without participating to a level that compromises fund-raising productivity.
The President, Philanthropic for the Foundation will have the following minimal qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Professional credentials(s) or advanced degrees in philanthropic studies desired
- ln-depth, conversational knowledge about the case for philanthropic support of not-for-profit hospitals including fifteen or more years of leadership as a fund-raising professional in a hospital setting
- History of success in major gift activity
- Successful experience in management and personnel supervision
