Pay Range*: $41.87/hr - $60.73/hr

Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The position is responsible for the oversight of the Environment of Care and related functions, departments and systems, including: Safety Management, Fire Prevention, Hazardous Materials, Emergency Management, Medical Equipment (Biomed), and Utilities Management programs.Chairs the Environment of Care Committee. The position is responsible for the development of policies and procedures, monitoring and evaluating the hospital-wide Environment of Care Program to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.Also, responsible for all activities related to Emergency Management (disaster planning, mitigation, response and recovery).Educates hospital staff on Emergency Management.Ensures the hospital’s preparedness for various emergencies and disasters, to minimize casualties and damage, and maximize continuation of operations under emergency conditions.Interacts regularly with internal and external resources in planning for potential manmade and natural disasters, including terrorism readiness.Functions as default Incident commander in the event of activation of the hospital’s Incident Command System.Responsible for hospital compliance with Southern California Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) regulations pertaining to mobile emission sources, namely rule #2202.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Manages the oversight and educates the staff on the Environment of Care and related functions, including their integration with Patient Safety activities.
  2. Consolidates and reports findings from the Environment of Care Surveillance Rounds, devises and implements corrective action plans in coordination with department management and validates success of corrective measures.
  3. Maintains and processes reports and documentation for safety management programs.
  4. Ensures compliance to all relevant government codes and building safety requirements.
  5. Leads Saddleback Medical Center’s disaster planning, mitigation, response and recovery efforts.
  6. Interacts regularly with internal and external resources in planning for potential disasters.
  7. Functions as default Incident commander in the event of the activation of the hospital’s Incident Command System and integrates emergency plans with local, State and Federal Emergency Agencies.
  8. Ability to be at work and be on time.
  9. Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
  10. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
  11. Ability to prioritize and multitask.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • 5 years of experience as a safety or security professional, preferably in a healthcare environment preferred. 
  • Detail orientation and self-directed.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in disaster planning and readiness including knowledge of hospital incident command systems.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency required.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred.
