Shift: Evenings – 8 hrs

Pay Range: $25.79/hr. - $37.28/hr.

Bonus: $1,500.00 – Sign On Bonus

Position Summary:

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Surgical Technician II is responsible for providing surgical assistance in a safe, appropriate and effective manner under the direction of a Registered Nurse/MD, in compliance with the Surgical Technician II standards of practice. It is not within the scope of practice of the Surgical Technician II to perform beyond their stated scope of practice (e.g. assessment, evaluation of patient data, administration of medications), even when requested by a Surgeon.). Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: provision of availability/maintenance of instruments, adherence to aseptic technique, advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and support to patient flow within department. Provides support and communicates directly with surgical team and supervisory staff. This position uses effective oral communication and participates in aspects of documentation. In addition, this position collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Serves as a subject matter expert and go-to person for emergent tasks; also prioritizes workload for staff to ensure daily tasks are completed in accordance with standards and processes in place.
  2. Decontaminates surgical and procedural instruments per manufacturers’ recommendations to ensure the safe utilization of all surgical and procedural instruments.
  3. Assembles, inspects, and tests surgical and procedural instruments per department protocol and according to manufacturers’ recommendations to ensure instrument cleanliness and functionality.
  4. Operates all equipment appropriately in Sterile Processing department including, but not limited to, steam sterilizers, H2O2, instrument and cart washers in accordance with the equipment specifications.
  5. Uses instrument tracking system in all areas of Sterile Processing department including documentation of tests and sterilizer records for inventory control, regulatory compliance, and continuous data analysis.
  6. Examines and maintains integrity of all sterile packages to ensure sterility is maintained for surgical procedures.
  7. Prepares operating room case carts according to preference cards on all surgical procedures and prioritizes vendor tray processing.
  8. Participates and promotes clear consistent communication through phones, email communications, and interdepartmental communications to enhance and streamline day to day operations within the Sterile Processing department.
  9. Precepts and assists new staff with orientation and overall successful integration within the department.
  10. Maintains appropriate attire specifically related to sterile surgical environments at all times to ensure the safety and infection control standards are met.
  11. Demonstrates ability to integrate knowledge of job responsibilities to complete tasks, resolve problems and achieve goals.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications/Work Experience

·       1-year experience in SPD acute care setting preferred

 

 

Education/Licensure/Certification

·       Sterile Processing experience or Graduate of a Sterile Processing Technical Training Program required

·       High school Diploma or Equivalent

·       Completion of HSPA CRCST Certification required

·       Basic Life Support (BLS) optional/preferred
