Position Summary:
Responsible for providing anesthesia support services throughout the medical center in conjunction with surgical and non-surgical procedures requiring anesthesia. Includes, but not limited to, the care and maintenance of anesthesia machines and other specialized equipment, inventory maintenance of
anesthesia supplies and equipment, patient care assistance, and other responsibilities
Essential Job Outcomes & Functions
- Independently performs the following responsibilities, associated with the care and function of anesthesia machines and equipment, with demonstrated skill, knowledge, efficiency and accuracy:
- Cleaning and stocking anesthesia machines and O.R. carts and with routine supplies.
- Setting up specialized equipment as requested.
- Preparing, calibrating and connecting monitoring equipment prior to patient care use.
- Troubleshooting, maintaining, and servicing anesthesia equipment to assure safe functioning; obtaining vendor/biomedical servicing as needed.
- Maintaining inventory of anesthesia supplies and equipment.
- Complying with manufacturer and hospital policies, procedures and guidelines for correct, economical and safe use and care of equipment and supplies
- Recording accurate data associated with the care and use of anesthesia equipment and supplies.
2. Under direct supervision of an anesthesiologist assists with patient care on the following tasks:
- Setting up blood warming devices and line insertions.
- Setting up and assisting with spinal and epidural catheter insertions.
- Gathering supplies and setting up auto transfusion system (cell saver).
- Setting up and assisting with difficult intubations and dual lumen endotracheal tubes.
3. Adheres to Infection Control guidelines and Standard Precautions while performing the following tasks:
- Effective hand washing technique
- Disposing properly of infectious waste
- Reprocessing reusable items (per hospital policy and manufacturers
4. Initiates and responds appropriately with emergency measures for cardiac/respiratory arrest.
5. Coordinates new equipment installations and through continuing education, seminars and other communications, maintains awareness of new product adaptability and impact to anesthesia care.
6. Demonstrates decision making ability that would determine the need for specific monitoring equipment based on individual patient care needs.
7. Participates in orienting new personnel to department, equipment and role responsibilities.
8. Assists, collaborates and interacts with other surgical team members with patient care needs as required.
Job Specific Competencies
- Performs job related functions in accordance with house-wide and departmental Policies and Procedures as well as any technical guidelines per manufacturer’s recommended instructions.
- Validation of competencies will be by direct observation, simulation, feedback, review of records.
- Verification and documentation of competence assessment will be maintained by the manager
Pay Range: $31.00 PD
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements / Work Experience / Education / Licensure / Certification:
- Two-year experience as anesthesia technician and extensive knowledge of anesthesia equipment required.
- High School Diploma or equivalency or evidence of higher education required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Anesthesia Tech certification or completed formal education from an Anesthesia Technology program preferred.
