Position Summary

The Director, Informatics oversees the integration and application of information technology at Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital. In partnership with Information System (IS) leadership, ensures effective use of the electronic health records and clinical data systems, enhancing patient care and operational efficiency. Collaborates with clinical staff to identify needs, implements data-driven solutions, and ensures compliance with healthcare regulations to achieve identified operational and clinical outcomes. Develops strategies for the Long Beach campus that support continuous improvement of clinical workflows, decision support tools, and bridges the gap between clinical practice and IS, optimizing technology to support best practice and seamless healthcare delivery.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Provides visionary leadership with commitment to informatics principles and MemorialCare’s strategic mission, including establishing a vision for the Long Beach campus’s unique and specific needs.
  • Collaborates as an integral and active contributor to the planning, design, development, integration, implementation, and evaluation of clinical technology applications.
  • Represents Long Beach Campus at local, state, and national levels through involvement in professional informatics associations and organizations.
  • Designs and implements prioritization model for informatics-related requests.
  • Leads organizational and local teams in defining and identifying metrics necessary to measure change and promote data- driven improvement across the continuum of patient care.
  • Incorporates best practices of informatics to maximize efficiency of clinical technology systems.
  • Responsible for the development, alignment, and evaluation of standard clinical workflows within clinical technology applications to support evidence-based best practice and standardized approach to clinical care among the interdisciplinary team and across the continuum of care.
  • Establishes effective relationships with clinical improvement teams, IS, and data and analytics team, and partners to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement within clinical technology applications.
  • Communicates information/outcomes regarding system issues and/or patient populations to appropriate individuals or groups and provides direction to facilitate/coordinate the progress along the continuum of care to achieve expected outcomes; identifies variation in care delivery.
  • Responsible for communicating clinical practice information to system engineers, designers, and analysts.
  • Collaborates with medical staff, health system operational teams, and associated care process models on hospital and system- wide committees.
  • Performs needs assessment and gap analysis as needed to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Conducts education and training to clinical informatics team and interdisciplinary teams as needed related to informatics expertise.
  • Keeps abreast of technological developments in the healthcare environment to propose future projects or enhancements to strategically help MemorialCare’s business growth and vision.
  • Creates and deploys policies and practices that keep patient records and other healthcare information secure and confidential.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications - External

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in informatics in a hospital-based health system required.
  • Experience Minimum 2 years’ leadership preferred.
  • Experience with Epic systems preferred.

 

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the state of California required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
