Position Summary

The Director of Medical Staff is responsible for the overall management of the Medical Staff Office operations and supervision of staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the credentialing and privileging of regular and contract physicians and allied health providers, managing the provider enrollment process, and ensuring compliance with Medical Staff by-laws, state, federal and other regulatory requirements.Acts as a liaison between the medical staff, nursing staff, and administration.Guides and oversees the MSO Coordinators, facilitates committee meetings, processes applications, and manages the financial activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates administrative and operational activities of the LBMC Medical Staff Office, including procurement, budget preparation and personnel activities; conducts analytical studies; resolves complex department administrative and personnel problems.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates the performance of subordinate staff; represents the department on grievances and disciplinary matters.
  • Coordinates medical staff activities and acts as liaison between the medical staff and LBMC administration.
  • Supervises and coordinates the credentialing and privileging activities for physicians and allied health providers and manages the provider enrollment process; ensures timeliness and accuracy of the medical staff credentialing, privileging, and provider enrollment processes.
  • Works with medical staff leadership and hospital clinical staff for the approval and ongoing review of credentials for physician and healthcare mid-level providers; ensures medical staff initial appointments and re-appointments are processed in a timely manner and meets pertinent legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for the coordination of monthly Medical Executive Committee (MEC) meetings, including agenda preparation, recording of MEC actions and monitoring of the implementation of MEC recommendations.
  • Develops, implements and revises by-laws of the Medical Staff/Executive Committee; ensures that department policies, procedures and by-laws are compliant with standards and regulations of Joint Commission, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), National Committee for Quality Assurance, and with state and federal regulatory organizations.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications - External

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Minimum Minimum 7 years’ medical staff services experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience with direct responsibility for strategic planning at a department or division level preferred.
  • Previous experience managing hospital and ambulatory credentialing and privileging activities for physician and healthcare mid-level providers.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience preferred.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) achieved within one (1) year of employment required.
