Position Summary

The Perioperative Patient Care Assistant performs basic patient care tasks as a cooperative member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, in the Surgery Services nursing unit at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center.  He/she reports at all times to a supervising nurse.  This position also indirectly supports patient care by providing clerical support to the unit as assigned.  The Perioperative Patient Care Assistant facilitates a safe, clean working environment for all patients, visitors, and staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Performs activities as identified on Perioperative Patient Care Assistant competency checklist while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and privacy.
  • Participates as a member of the health care team.
  • Respects patient confidentiality at all times.

·Consistently applies infection control policies and procedures.

·Maintains a safe, clean and healthful environment.

·Attends department specific staff meetings, in-services, education and training.

·Participates in selected department specific Performance Improvement Projects.

·Demonstrates skills consistent with standards of practice and Departmental

·Policies and Procedures.

·Participates in orientation of new staff as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Prior work experience in an acute hospital setting is preferred.
  • Must have basic knowledge of standard perioperative care procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is recommended 

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) certification is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalency
