Position Summary
The Pharmacy Intern position is intended for a student who holds an active Intern Pharmacist License and is currently enrolled in a School of Pharmacy.The Pharmacy Intern works independently when appropriate and cooperatively with pharmacy staff to provide safe, accurate and timely delivery of medications to patients and conducts patient interviews to obtain medication histories. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern effectively processes new orders, accesses appropriate patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) if needed, issues drug doses to nurses, fills medication cassettes, fills automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and/or drug delivery bins, packages, and prepares patient doses and maintains drug inventories. The Pharmacy Intern effectively communicates with co-workers, other healthcare professionals, and patients. In addition, the Pharmacy Intern will assist the pharmacist in managing pharmacy regulated drug therapies, assessing drug therapy, and answering drug therapy questions from nurses and other health professionals.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
·Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the intern ensures accurate preparation, labeling, and timely delivery of medications as prescribed to ensure excellent patient care.
·Complies with the laws governing the storage and maintenance of all drugs, including Schedules II-V, to secure the integrity of the Pharmacy Department

·Solely maximizes inventory turnover, prevents stock outs, and minimizes drug wastage to optmize financial performance of the Pharmacy Department.
·Complies with California Board of Pharmacy sterile compounding standards when preparing intravenous products, to establish consistent, accurate, and timely delivery of medications.
·Able to independently use computer and/or automation resources in an efficient and timely manner as relevant to their practice are, and ensures accurate billing.
·Successfully maintains competency for shifts and skills trained to that are relevant to his/her practice area(s) and is continually aware of new or updated Pharmacy methods.
·Performs other duties as assigned. For interns, this includes conducting and documenting patient interviews for medication histories, assisting the pharmacist with managing clinical activities and answering drug information questions from nurses and other health professionals.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.
