Position Summary
Directly responsible for the frontline supervision of SPD techs (32.0 FTE), SPD Coordinators (2.0 FTE) Senior Clerk (1 FTE) Equipment Control Clerk (1 FTE) on the 1st and 2nd shifts. Assigns employees to tasks and reassigns as necessary to reflect changes in staffing, census, nursing or Operating Room Services needs. This position reviews employee's work to ensure staff maintains supplies at sufficient levels so that staff may provide quality services and insures that all equipment, instrumentation, and associated process are met to insure patient safety and physician satisfaction. If responsible for counseling and/or disciplinary action including termination for performance issues, working directly with human resources along with maintaining documentation. Writes, approves and reviews all CAT's with staff. Responsibilities includes problem resolution relating to the department, hospital, medical and administrative staff. Oversees all QA projects verifying documentation is completed relating to JCAHO, AAMI, DHS, and OSHA standards. Incumbent oversees and supervises the purchasing, receiving, distribution, and billing of all supplies related to Sterile Processing and items, which support the Operating Rooms. Oversees all training of staff for new equipment and instruments and documents as required by regulatory agencies and hospital policy.
Works directly with and advises AUMs and physicians in the Operating Rooms to ensure that the correct product and instrument levels are maintained to insure that OR time is not impacted by delays or missing instruments. Works closely with OR AUMs and management to insure adequate levels of communication and problem solving are maintained. Incumbent evaluates staffing requirements and provides input to budget needs and manpower staffing either to increase or decrease based on nursing and department needs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
1.SupervisionofSterileProcessingstafftoensurestaffmaintainssuppliesatsufficientlevelssothatstaffmay providequalityserviceandinsuresthatallequipment,instrumentationandassociatedprocessesaremetto insures patient safety and physiciansatisfaction.
2.Assists Manger with day to day operational oversight and budget management of the department as well as linen department.
3.ResponsibleforeffectiveandefficientuseofresourcestoinsuretheassetsofLBMCareproperly documented maintained and accounted for, which results in the lowest total deliveredcost.
4.Responsibleforacquisition,storage,distribution,trackingandrevenuerecoveryofallpatientdurablemedical equipment, including equipment rented from outsidevendors.
5.Actsastheliaisonbetweenthecontractorand theclinicaldirectorsforcostcontainment,usage,securityand discrepancyresolution.
6.Supervision of SPD personnel to ensure appropriate documentation of sterilization process is accomplished in accordance with policy andguidelines.
7.Supervision of sterilization process to insure that surgical trays and instruments are available for scheduled surgical cases to prevent either delays incases or prevent potential harm topatients.
8.Supervision of equipment personnel to ensure phones are answered, supplies and equipment are pulled to ensure customer satisfactions, the delivery of qualityhealthcare.
9.Responsible for ensuring correct procedures are followed throughout LBMC pertaining to decontamination/sterilization, which is reported to the Infection ControlCommittee.
10.Createsasixweekschedulethathasalldailyjobassignmentslistedforthreeshifts.
11.Interviews, hires, counsels and disciplines as required also provides CATinput.
12.Oversees the completion of QA's and completed documentation following regulatoryrequirements.
13.Initiates, implements and oversee performance improvementsopportunities.
14.Oversees the upkeep/changes with crash carts and traumacarts.
15.Participate in the development and accomplishment of annual programs goals, objectives andbudget.
16.This position is the designated to oversee Sterile Processing and equipment distribution for Long Beach Medical Center.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications:
· 5 years Central Supply/Sterile Processing experience and certification.
· Associates Degree preferred
· Minimum of 4 years progressively increased responsibility with supervision of staff and day to day operations
· Minimum of 2 years of direct exposure to instrument processing in an Operating Room setting,
