Position Summary

Supports all aspects of the Audit Department by analyzing charges, charge systems, and other factors impacting patient charges, and provides the results in an accurate and timely manner.  Helps to improve, create, and make appropriate changes to all charge related items.  This position requires knowledge of the confidential and proprietary nature of information, the ability to establish priorities, problem solve, interact with managers and their staff and provide daily support to the Business Office and Coding Department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1.            Uses critical thinking skills to analyze all patient charges and charging systems throughout the hospital for efficiency and accurate performance.

2.            Assists in creating and implementing audit reports, and processes, methods and procedures to improve function, analysis and monitoring of charges.

3.            Supports all charging departments by providing charging evaluations on an ongoing basis, including analysis of audits.

4.            Provides accurate charge and charging information for defense and concurrent audit and bill review.

5.            Researches material and other charging resources independently and productively, i.e., government or community standard charging requirements.

6.            Helps in developing and performing daily operations, assisting patient accounts, coding, commercial, state and federal billing departments, and assist with patient inquiries.

7.            Develops and maintains expertise and competence related to audit processes, tools, techniques, environment language, procedures, and IS standards associated with all aspects of charging and patient billing.

8.            Actively participates in interdepartmental meetings and discusses issues related to charging and charge systems.

9.            Assists in Chargemaster development/maintenance.

10.        Recognizes and performs essential duties and offers assistance to others or performs other required tasks when own assignments are completed.

11.        Actively participates in enhancements throughout the department and continually seeks opportunities to improve current policies, procedures, practices, and workflows.

12.        Adheres to all patient confidentiality policies and carries out all tasks in a pleasant and respectful manner.

13.        Ability to function at all Memorial campuses, with facility specific knowledge.

14.        Be at work and be on time.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications/Work Experience:

1.      Proficiency in word, Excel, and paperless network systems – experience preferred.

2.      Understanding of key patient billing applications and related information technologies.

3.      Prior experience with/or exposure to departments such as: patient accounts, auditing, and coding.

4.      Knowledge of standard billing in the community as well as State and Federal charging regulations.

 

 

Education/Licensure/Certification:

1.      High School diploma

2.      Two years college and/or audit-related experience

3.      Coding certificate preferred
