Position Summary
This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.
The GI Technician II is an unlicensed staff who has an advanced knowledge and skills for providing assistance during GI diagnostic, therapeutic, and Advance Endoscopic procedures in a safe, appropriate and effective manner under the direction of a Registered Nurse and or GI MD in compliance with the standards of practice as stated in the California Board of Nursing for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to provision of availability, cleaning and maintenance of instruments, participation in specimen collection, adherence to aseptic technique, supply inventory, and transporting of patients, Provides support and communicates directly with nursing team and supervisory staff. The GI Technician must use effective written or verbal communication and participate in aspects of required documentation. In addition, the GI technician collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
1.Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently perform all aspects of GI diagnostic, therapeutic and advance procedures.
2.Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation within their scope of practice.
3.Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
4.Demonstrates the expertise to safely and competently perform cleaning, inspection, maintenance of all endoscopes, and all other lab equipment, and high-level disinfectants, according to department policies, infection control policies and manufacturer guidelines.
5.Serves as a preceptor, role model for new personnel in training.
6.Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in an acute or outpatient setting as a GI Tech required
• Proficient in assisting with diagnostic, therapeutic and advanced Endoscopic Procedures required
• Completion of GI tech program preferred
• Completion of SGNA certification for GI Tech preferred
• Computer, Internet, order entry, and Word processing experience preferred
• Proficiency in medical terminology required
Education/Licensure/Certification:
• Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card required
• GI Tech Certification or equivalent preferred
