Position Summary
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission Orange Coast Medical Center. The employee shall support MemorialCare Medical Centers’ strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.
The Infection Prevention, Program Manager position is within the Performance Improvement departments at Orange Coast Medical Centers. This role is primarily responsible for the activities aimed at preventing healthcare associated infections (HAIs), ensuring proper Infection Control precautions are in place, and compliance with infection control standards. In collaboration with the other Infection Prevention Program Managers, this individual is accountable for the development, implementation, management, and operation of the infection prevention programs. This individual works autonomously to conduct rounds, monitor infection prevention practices with staff, collect data, maintain accurate records of HAIs, submit data internally/externally, conduct outbreak investigations, train staff on infection prevention practices, investigate incidents of infections and report incidents to appropriate staff/leadership. This individual ensures that the facilities follow all federal and state regulations, CDC guidelines, and quality/safety standards to reduce the risks associated with hospital and community acquired diseases for our patients across the care continuum.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Implements effective infection prevention and control surveillance plan that reflects the need of the organization and the community served.
- Assists the other Infection Prevention Program Managers at each campus with program oversight and ensures compliance with program and medical center policies, protocols, and guidelines.
- Uploads and imports data into various internal and external databases in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner.
- Maintains current knowledge of CDC, OSHA, and local/state/federal regulations to ensure compliance with infection control or standard/universal precautions.
- Creates and implements reports, methods, and procedures to improve function, analysis, and monitoring of performance.
- Accountable for surveillance of healthcare-acquired and community-acquired infections.
- Makes written and oral reports/recommendations, as necessary/required, concerning the infection control program of this facility.
- Conducts outbreak investigations.
- Assesses the need for, develop, and present infection prevention and control education as needed.
- Enforces compliance with hospital infection prevention and control policies during rounding and compliance audits.
- Works with the Antimicrobial Stewardship committee to analyze reports for the appropriate use of antimicrobial and disseminate the reports
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in infectious disease prevention at a healthcare organization, required.
- Working knowledge of and ability to demonstrate a comprehension of medical and nursing education and patient care management, microbiology, pathology, immunology, and medical statistics or biostatistics required.
- Working knowledge of and experience in the practice of epidemiological principles and infectious diseases as related to infection prevention and control.
- Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate a comprehension of medical statistics/biostatistics, data analysis, and reporting of metrics to external agencies.
- Knowledge/experience with Microsoft Office products and/or database management
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or a clinically related field required or equivalent knowledge base and/or experience.
- Post-secondary education in a health-related field, including but not limited to medicine, nursing, laboratory technology, public health, or biology, preferred.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) completion, preferred. If completion has not been accomplished upon hire, the incumbent will accomplish certification completion within the agreed-upon period of time.
