Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrates behavior consistent with our core values: Integrity, Accountability, Best Practices, Compassion, and Synergy. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Lead is under the direction of the Supervisor/ Manager of Admitting and assists with coordinating the activities of the admitting staff. The admitting lead registers and pre-registers patients, compiling accurate demographic information. Is responsible for verifying insurance and obtaining authorization numbers when needed. The lead assists in reviewing accounts in the workqueues and assists with training new staff. Participates as a member of the supervision team and helps to resolve issues as they arise. Promotes a positive team environment and maintains effective working relationships with admitting management, co-workers, clinicians, patients, and others. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1. Ability to assist in leading the activities of the team to ensure work objectives are met. 

2. Monitors and manages work queues. 

3. Ability to interpret insurance benefits, authorization requirements, and admission requirements 

4. Ability to role model outstanding customer service skills using “Simply Better” and AIDET principles. 

5. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form 

6. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner and promotes conflict resolution 

7. Serves as a knowledgeable and available resource to the staff 

8. Avoids HIPAA violations by choosing correct MRN and maintains complete patient/employer confidentiality. 

9. Ensures all registration forms are complete, signed, and scanned. Enters notes in Epic as required. 

10. Collects and posts payments timely and accurately. Immediately drops payment in safe or cash drawer. 

11. Maintains registration accuracy rate of 95% or better. 

12. Ability to be at work and be on time. 

13. Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives. 

14. Ability to prioritize and multitask.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications/Work Experience:

• 2 or more years of experience in the admitting department, business office, or physician office

• Knowledgeable and familiar with all aspects of the admitting department

• Must communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing

• Strong customer service skills

• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.

• General knowledge of insurance payors: PPO, HMO, POS, EPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, & Cal-Optima

• Bi-lingual (English/ Spanish, or English/ Vietnamese) preferred • Positive work ethic

• General computer skills required including electronic medical records and Microsoft Office

• Knowledge of medical terminology
