Position Summary

The Applications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of assigned clinical and ancillary applications and the teams that support them. This role focuses on execution, stability, optimization, staff leadership, and customer responsiveness, ensuring applications are supported reliably and efficiently.

Working under the direction of the Director, Enterprise Ancillary Applications, the Manager translates strategic direction into daily operational plans, oversees application support and minor enhancements, manages staff workload and performance, and serves as an escalation point for operational issues. The Manager is accountable for service delivery, staff engagement, application reliability, and adherence to standards, timelines, and budgets established at the enterprise level.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Day-to-day application support and optimization

  • Staff supervision, scheduling, coaching, and performance management

  • Operational issue resolution (P1/P2 incidents, workflow issues)

  • Coordination of build, enhancements, upgrades, and maintenance

  • Execution of projects and initiatives defined by Director and governance

  • Provide direct management and supervision of clinical/ancillary application analysts and support staff, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and staff development.

  • Ensure daily operational support of assigned applications meets service level expectations, including incident management, issue resolution, and change coordination.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for application-related operational issues, working closely with staff, vendors, and IS partners to resolve problems efficiently.

  • Coordinate and oversee system build, maintenance, upgrades, optimization efforts, and defect resolution, ensuring work is prioritized appropriately.

  • Translate Director direction, governance decisions, and roadmap priorities into actionable work plans and staff assignments.

  • Partner closely with the Director to ensure application work aligns with enterprise standards, architectural direction, and financial expectations.

  • Collaborate with campus leadership, operational stakeholders, and shared services to ensure application functionality effectively supports clinical and business workflows.

  • Track and report on operational metrics, resource utilization, issue trends, and risks; proactively identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Support vendor activities including issue escalation, upgrade coordination, and routine operational interactions as directed by the Director.

  • Ensure compliance with IS policies, security standards, HIPAA, and change management processes.

  • Participate in project and operational meetings; represent application teams in cross-functional forums as needed.

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support evolving operational needs.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • 3+ years Epic or clinical application build/support experience

  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience strongly preferred

  • Strong people leadership and coaching skills

  • Operational problem-solving and prioritization

  • Working knowledge of clinical workflows and application support models

  • Ability to balance multiple operational demands in a fast-paced environment

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in healthcare, information systems, or related field

  • Epic certification preferred; proficiency considered
