Under the supervision of the Director, the Pharmacy Technician/Research will be responsible for supporting various activities associated with the day-to-day operations of the Research Site.The Pharmacy Technician/Research position is intended for a technician with experience in an acute care hospital research pharmacy or research site pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician/Research works independently when appropriate and cooperatively with research pharmacy staff to provide safe, accurate and timely delivery of medications to patients.The Pharmacy Technician/Research effectively processes new orders, accesses appropriate patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) if needed, dispenses drug doses, fills medication cassettes, fills automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and/or drug delivery bins, packages, and prepares patient doses and maintains drug inventories. The Pharmacy Technician/Research effectively communicates with the Research Teams, PI's, Sub-I's, Research Manager, Research Director, Sponsors, Co-workers, other Healthcare Professionals, and Patients.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

·Receive, ship, and inventory investigational products. Manage inventory and drug supply.

·May act as a blinded and/or unblinded staff member on research studies which require a blinded and/or 

·unblinded role

·Dispensation of IP via IWRS, including completion of IP related forms and ensuring quality check(s) are

·performed as specified in the pharmacy manual of research studies

·Under the supervision of a pharmacist, measure, mix and package medications in a sterile and non-sterile environment.

·Participates in monitoring visits as needed; provides support for sponsor and /or FDA audits

·Transport of IP between sites

·Support monitoring systems at all locations including temperature monitoring systems

·Be at work and be on time

·Follow company policies, procedures and directives

·Interact in a positive and constructive manner

·Prioritize and multitask

Essential Job Outcomes

Specific job related responsibilities and duties.

·Management and inventory of rescue/prescription medications

·Management of pharmacy-related research manuals

·Management of IP return and destruction per study-specific guidance

·Complies with California Board of Pharmacy sterile compounding standards when preparing intravenous products, to establish consistent, accurate, and timely delivery of medications.

·Complies with the laws governing the storage and maintenance of all drugs, including Schedules II-V, to secure the integrity of the Pharmacy Department.

·Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the technician ensures accurate preparation, labeling, and timely delivery of medications as prescribed to ensure excellent patient care.

·Able to independently use computer and/or automation resources in an efficient and timely manner as relevant to their practice area, and ensures accurate billing.

·Able to provide coverage of after-hours support per the department on-call/stand-by policy

·“Other duties as assigned”

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

·       Completion of a recognized pharmacy technician training program and 1 year experience in an acute care hospital.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

·       1 year of pharmacy research experience

 

Education/Licensure/Certification:

·       High School Diploma or equivalent education/experience - Required

·       Current licensure as a pharmacy technician in the State of California
