Position Summary
The Centralized Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for the collaborative, day-to-day management of pharmaceutical purchasing across the MemorialCare Health System. The Buyer supports the optimization of procurement workflows through the use of technology, ensuring that purchasing processes are streamlined and efficient. Additionally, the Buyer actively contributes to strategies aimed at mitigating systemwide medication shortages, working closely with internal teams to maintain consistent supply.
The Centralized Pharmacy Buyer works in close partnership with the Manager, Pharmacy Purchasing and collaborates with other key stakeholders throughout the organization. The role is essential for maintaining cost-effective, compliant, and efficient purchasing operations, ultimately supporting the overall mission of MemorialCare’s pharmacy services.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Execute daily purchasing activities across multiple campuses in a cost-effective manner.
Support procurement and operations of the Central Pharmacy Warehouse and systemwide procurement initiatives.
Monitor and resolve backorders or allocation limits through proactive vendor communication and coordination on therapeutic alternatives.
Assist in the integration of campus-level purchasing into centralized Shared Services workflows, including onboarding support for new processes.
Support achievement of systemwide procurement targets through Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contract compliance and optimized purchasing strategies.
Support compliance with 340B purchasing standards and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies as related to procurement.
Maintain relationships with pharmaceutical vendors and wholesalers to ensure optimal pricing and supply integrity as needed.
Ability to be at work and be on time.
Execute daily purchasing activities of pharmaceuticals, fluids, and pertinent supplies across multiple campuses using various technology platforms.
Ensures procurement activities are conducted in an efficient and accurate manner, meeting internal service level agreements (SLA’s) and order accuracy rates determined by the department.
Maintains adequate inventory levels at the Central Pharmacy Warehouse, coordinates strategic purchases while minimizing emergency orders
Resolves and/ or communicates backorder status to campus inventory personnel while effectively managing alternative procurement strategies.
Ensuring adherence to pharmacy purchasing policies and procedures, including but not limited to the proper delineation of purchasing and receiving functions

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting, preferred
Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Pharmacy Buyer and/ or an understanding of inventory management strategies, purchasing procedures, database management, and spreadsheet proficiency, preferred
Experience with 340B Federal drug pricing program and its requirements, preferred
Experience with drug procurement platforms and technology, preferred
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Current California Registered Pharmacy Technician license, required
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential, preferred
