Position Summary
The MemorialCare Project Management family is responsible for a range of activities related to the design, planning, execution, facilitation, implementation, and completion of information technology projects adhering to timeline, budget, and scope.They oversee all aspects of MemorialCare Information Services (IS) projects and are responsible for working closely with the project stakeholders, including vendor management.Throughout the course of projects, they assign responsibilities, monitor and report on progress of projects, as well as prepare reports for leadership regarding the status of the project.
Portfolio Directors provide enterprise-level leadership to define, prioritize, and direct MemorialCare’s strategic investments across all IS programs, projects, and operational initiatives. They ensure that portfolios are aligned with the MemorialCare’s long-term vision, strategic goals, and business priorities, and that resources are optimized to deliver maximum value. The Portfolio Director oversees the governance and execution of enterprise portfolios, driving investment decisions in partnership with executive leadership and the Board.
This role is accountable for establishing and maintaining the enterprise portfolio roadmap, including strategic direction, interdependencies, benefits, risks, and performance metrics, ensuring organizational transparency and accountability. The Portfolio Director leads and develops the Project Management Office team, setting standards for portfolio management practices and fostering continuous improvement in methodologies, processes, and tools.
As a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the Portfolio Director provides critical insights to guide enterprise decision-making, capital planning, and benefit realization. They play a pivotal role in balancing innovation, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence to sustain profitable operations and advance the organization’s mission of delivering high-quality care in our communities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Provide enterprise oversight of all IS portfolios, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational priorities and long-term business goals.
Lead the strategic planning, governance, and prioritization processes for enterprise initiatives in partnership with executive leadership and governance committees.
Direct and mentor the Project Management Office team, ensuring consistent portfolio management practices, methodologies, and reporting across the organization.
Define and maintain the enterprise portfolio roadmap, providing transparency into strategic direction, dependencies, benefits, risks, and resource needs.
Oversee capital planning and resource allocation for all IS initiatives, ensuring investments are optimized to deliver maximum business value and ROI.
Establish and track enterprise-level KPIs and performance measures for portfolio success, providing regular reporting and insights to the CIO, Executive Team, and Board.
Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, influencing decision-making on major investments, technology strategies, and organizational priorities.
Evaluate and continuously improve PMO processes, tools, and governance structures, driving maturity and standardization across IS portfolios.
Provide leadership in risk management and escalation, ensuring resolution of critical portfolio-level challenges that impact strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with business and clinical leaders to ensure alignment of IS initiatives with operational needs, regulatory requirements, and innovation priorities.
Develop, mentor, and coach senior IS project and portfolio leaders, strengthening organizational capability and succession planning.

·Provides enterprise leadership and oversight of all IS portfolios, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, mission, and long-term business goals.
·Leads the enterprise portfolio governance process, partnering with executive leadership and Board committees to evaluate, prioritize, approve, and monitor initiatives that deliver measurable business value.
·Directs and develops the Project Management Office team, ensuring consistent application of methodologies, governance, and reporting across all portfolios.
·Establishes and maintains the enterprise portfolio roadmap, integrating interdependencies, milestones, benefits, risks, and intended direction to provide transparency and accountability at the executive and Board levels.
·Oversees the IS capital investment and budget planning process, ensuring requests are strategically justified, financially sound, and aligned to organizational priorities.
·Provides enterprise-level analysis, KPIs, and performance metrics to executive leadership and the Board, enabling data-driven decision-making and accountability for outcomes.
·Partners with senior executives and project sponsors to evaluate cost benefit, ROI, and strategic impact of proposed initiatives, presenting recommendations for approval at the Executive and Board level.
·Optimizes resource allocation and capacity planning at an enterprise scale, balancing competing demands across portfolios and reducing friction to improve organizational performance.
·Oversees benefits realization management, ensuring that projects and programs achieve intended outcomes and measurable business value.
·Serves as the strategic advisor to IS and business leadership, ensuring enterprise portfolios balance innovation, compliance, operational excellence, and growth.
·Leads continuous improvement of PMO processes, tools, and standards, advancing portfolio management maturity across the enterprise.
·Proactively manages and escalates enterprise portfolio risks and issues, ensuring mitigation strategies are implemented and critical challenges resolved.
·Develops, mentors, and coaches Portfolio Managers, Program Managers, and Project Managers to strengthen organizational leadership capacity.
·Represents IS portfolios at executive and governance forums, communicating enterprise portfolio status, risks, and opportunities with clarity and executive presence.
·Undertakes assignments as required to adapt quickly and positively to new or emergent organizational priorities.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
· 12+ years of progressive project/program/portfolio management experience
· 10+ years of leadership experience, with demonstrated ability to lead senior managers and cross-functional teams
· Proven track record of driving enterprise portfolio strategy and governance in healthcare or a similarly complex industry
· Strong executive presence and ability to influence C-suite and Board-level decision-making
· Experienced in establishing and enforcing effective PMO strategies, methodologies, and processes

· Demonstrated ability to conduct research into new healthcare reform, trends, and PMI Portfolio management standards
· Experienced in managing enterprise project portfolios, programs, and projects, including the management of the portfolio budget and the ability to interact with all staff levels of the organization
· Demonstrated overall knowledge of the healthcare business environment, including Medical Groups, IPAs, and Health Plans for Managed Care business workflows including Hospital workflow
· Experienced working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and managing multiple priorities
· Proven excellent leadership and relationship management skills, as well as the ability to manage and motivate direct and indirect reports
· Experienced working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
· Demonstrated high energy levels and tolerance of tight deadlines, time pressures, and ambiguity
· Proven knowledge of PCs, collaborative computing tools, re-engineering and process improvement techniques, information management in healthcare, systems integration and basic project finance regulations
· Experienced in leading projects, providing expert consultative guidance and direction on change initiatives, effectively dedicating time across more than one project, and meeting established deadlines
· Proven ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules, and step-by-step action plans
· Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Suite Products required
· Demonstrated analytical, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills
· Proven superior oral and written communication and presentation skills; able to interact with individuals across all departments
Education/Licensure/Certification:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required; Master’s degree strongly preferred
· Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
· PMI Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) certification preferred
· Lean Six Sigma, ITIL, or equivalent certifications preferred
