Purpose Statement / Position Summary
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.
The Clinical Supervisor is the front-line supervisor responsible for coordinating operations of the patient care department during their assigned shift. S/he is able to coordinate care not only for individual patients, but also to lead the care delivery of multiple patients in the nursing care area in accordance with the policies and procedures, standards and standard work that guide the processes of the assigned department. Responsibilities include coordinating, directing and monitoring unit operations with a focus on patient flow, staff scheduling, department budget, and unit supplies for the assigned shift. As a front-line nurse leader, s/he is accountable for participation in the evaluation process, and participation in the development and retention of department staff (licensed and unlicensed). Responsibilities include the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of processes of the department to ensure consistent high quality, cost effective, patient-centered care. The success of the department is inherent in the incumbent’s ability to demonstrate positive, professional communication with patients, families, physician’s departmental and interdepartmental staff to optimize workflow and to facilitate problem identification and resolution. The Clinical Supervisor collaborates with other professional disciplines/unit leaders to ensure the safe and effective delivery of patient-centered care and the achievement of desired patient safety outcomes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- 1Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, policies and procedures and practice standards as a framework for the management of unit operations.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership in high-stress situations.
- Models an interdisciplinary approach and collaborates with healthcare team members to achieve optimal operational efficiency.
- Promotes the advancement of the profession of nursing (e.g. certification, advancement of education, Nurse Leadership Academy).
- Ability to demonstrate leadership in the coordination and collaboration of patient-centered care across the healthcare continuum.
- Creates a supportive, healthy, positive work environment through clinical and administrative leadership and expertise.

- Fosters a culture of safety by assessing and applying appropriate interventions and evaluating the effectiveness of those outcomes.

- Ensures accountability to achieve financial targets through daily management of personnel in accordance with patient census and other variables.
- Promotes and participates in activities designed to support organizational excellence and growth, such as Magnet initiatives and Lean processes.
- Demonstrates the ability to teach, mentor, coach, delegate and supervise healthcare team members in the performance of nursing procedures and processes with a focus on safety and competence.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements:
Experience
- Two years’ experience required in an area of similar clinical expertise
- Supervisor and/or nursing leadership experience preferred
Education
- Current California RN License required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Card
- ONS Chemotherapy / Biotherapy provider required or must be obtained within one (1) year of hire
- EKG Certification preferred
- Specialty Certification preferred
