Position Summary:

The VP, Foundation, is the hospital-based philanthropy leader of Orange Coast Medical Center, an award-winning hospital in the MemorialCare health system. This dynamic leader oversees the philanthropy team, develops and executes fundraising strategy, leads the major gift enterprise, manages budgets, ensures proper stewardship and reporting, and partners with leadership to secure philanthropic resources for the organization's mission: to enhance the health and well-being for individuals, families and communities. Key focus areas include major and legacy gifts, grants, signature events, and grateful patient/community engagement to drive sustainable funding growth and measurable impact.

This positive, highly visible leader will work closely with the MemorialCare Orange County Foundation President/Chief Development Officer, as well as the Orange Coast Medical Center C-suite, Foundation Advisory Board, and physician partners to build a culture of philanthropy, identify and drive new sources of philanthropic revenue and meet ambitious growth goals.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The VP, Foundation is a full-time position reporting to the President/Chief Development Officer, MemorialCareFoundations, Orange County Region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategy & Leadership:

Develop comprehensive fundraising strategic plans and budgets aligned with organizational goals.

- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and leadership team on philanthropic priorities.

- Foster a strong culture of philanthropy with clinical and non-clinical partners throughout the organization.

- Exhibit strong, positive leadership, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building skills.

Fundraising & Donor Engagement:

- Lead OCMC major gift program and work closely with Executive Director, Legacy Giving for the MemorialCare OC Region to build a robust pipeline of major and legacy giving donors.

- Identify, engage, cultivate, solicit and steward meaningful relationships with high-net-worth individuals, grateful patients, foundations, and corporation representatives, to enhance the reputation of OCMC Foundation as a trusted organization for philanthropic investment and impact.

- Oversee communications, donor engagement, signature events, annual giving and stewardship for OCMC Foundation, collaborating with organizational marketing and donor engagement teams, and aligning with overall organizational strategy.

- In collaboration with finance and data management colleagues, provide comprehensive regular reports on fundraising prospects, major and legacy gift pipeline and other Foundation campaign progress to the CDO, CEO and governance.

- Ensure accuracy, best practices and compliance with all laws and ethical fundraising standards.

Team Management:

- Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate OCMC Foundation staff.

- Set goals, monitor performance, and build a high-performing team in alignment with MemorialCare Orange County Region philanthropy strategy and goals.

Community & Board Engagement:

- Be visible in the Orange County community to build partnerships and enhance the OCMC/MemorialCare reputation.

- Staff, steward and grow the OCMC Foundation Advisory Board; partnering with them and other leaders to achieve fundraising targets.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of philanthropy best practices, trends and the case for philanthropic support of not-for-profit hospitals including ten or more years of leadership as a fund-raising professional, preferably in a hospital or academic medical center setting
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and analytical abilities
  • Experience successful working with diverse populations
  • Proven success in all aspects of major gifts and managing complex campaigns
  • Successful experience in management and personnel supervision, including experience leading diverse teams

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  •   Bachelors Degree required

  • Professional credentials(s) or advanced degree preferred
