Position Summary

This position will oversee the day to day Infection Prevention program while maintaining an in-depth understanding of and demonstrated leadership of state and federal regulations, disease control and preventions as well as quality/safety agency standards.

The Infection Prevention Program Manager position provides leadership for our infection prevention program within the Performance Improvement department at Saddleback Medical Center.The Program Manager provides strategic oversight, program development, and regulatory alignment by setting program priorities, establishing policies, and ensuring regulatory compliance with NHSN, CDC, OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, and state/federal standards.The Program Manager is responsible for driving performance improvement to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and safeguarding patient and staff health and well-being by ensuring proper infection control precautions are in place. This position serves as an advisor to staff, leadership, physicians, and committees, leads surveillance and outbreak investigations, and directs the infection control professional to ensure program success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Provides leadership for the infection prevention program, including setting goals, priorities, and standards.

  2. Directs and oversees infection prevention policies, procedures, and protocols.

  3. Chairs or co-chairs infection prevention committees and serves as the liaison for regulatory agencies.

  4. Reviews infection surveillance data, analyzes trends, and makes strategic recommendations to leadership.

  5. Oversees reporting of infection data to both internal and external databases or agencies.

  6. Ensures compliance with NHSN, CDC, OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, and state/federal regulations.

  7. Partners with the medical staff and clinical and operational leaders to embed best practices and foster a culture of safety.

  8. Submits reports to leadership on program performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.

  9. Develops and delivers organization-wide education and training initiatives.

  10. Leads outbreak investigations and coordinates responses.

  11. Works with the Antimicrobial Stewardship committee to analyze reports for the appropriate use of antimicrobial and disseminate the reports.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in infectious disease prevention at a healthcare organization, required.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of medical and nursing principles, patient care management, and foundational sciences including microbiology, pathology, and immunology. Demonstrates ability to apply medical statistics and biostatistics in clinical and quality improvement settings preferred.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in the practice of epidemiological principles and infectious diseases as related to infection prevention and control preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate a comprehension of medical statistics/biostatistics, data analysis, and reporting of metrics to external agencies preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and program management skills preferred.
