Position Summary
The Manager of Acute Medical Services is responsible for the overall direction of nursing care and services of the department. The incumbent directs, plans, and develops all aspects of quality of care in collaboration with medical staff leadership to achieve clinical and service objectives, fiscal performance targets, and strategic plan and service line goals for Saddleback Medical Center. Additionally, the manager maintains oversight and responsibility for staff performance and competence; department performance improvement; staffing patterns, internal and external relationships for the department; communication to Administration; internal and external marketing; program development; education and development of staff; and fiscal management of department resources. The position is accountable to county, state, and federal agencies, and other regulatory agencies (i.e. The Joint Commission) for maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Evaluates, plans, and implements standards and measurement tools to assess and improve staff and hospital performance, patient care, and ensure regulatory compliance
- Creates an atmosphere of harmony, promoting cooperative behavior and customer service excellence
- Demonstrates effective leadership principles and communication
- Exhibits knowledge of accounting principles with an understanding of budget development, business economics, and inventory management
- Collaboratively functions with leadership team in developing policies, procedures, and strategic planning
- Interprets and equitably administers policies and procedures
- Maintains effective communication and optimal working relationships with all health care team members towards promoting quality care and customer satisfaction
- Motivates, develops, and directs staff, identifying leaders for advancement
- Utilizes sound principles (i.e. Just Culture) in managing and addressing staff members
- Accountable for recruitment and retention of nursing personnel
- Plan and recommend new facilities or equipment as needed to provide patient care
- Provides oversight of technology to ensure enhancement of service operations
- Other duties as assigned
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
5+ years of progressive management experience in an acute care hospital setting.
Medical-Surgical/Telemetry experience required
Demonstrated experience and competency in operations improvement, clinical program and educational program development, organizational development, and financial management.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with physicians.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Bachelor Degree in Nursing required; MSN preferred
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Card required
Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Card required
Specialty certification preferred
