Purpose Statement / Position Summary

A Pharmacy Intern is developing their skills in the practice of Pharmacy. Under the supervision of a
Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern will assist in the preparation, dispensing, and inventory management of
all medications and supplies in the Department of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Intern works independently
and cooperatively with members of the Department of Pharmacy, Nursing, and other medical center
departments to provide safe, accurate, and timely delivery of medications to patients. The Pharmacy Intern
has the technical ability to utilize Pharmacy automation systems and the electronic health record (EHR).
Pharmacy Interns follow and maintain the appropriate documentation as required by law, regulation, and
departmental policy. Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern can participate in the
Pharmacy clinical program.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1. Monitors and triages Pharmacy communications
2. Prepares medication for dispensation from the Pharmacy
3. Participates in maintaining inventory management and proper recordkeeping
4. Delivers medication to appropriate units or automated dispensing machines
5. Maintains the integrity of all medications received, stored, prepared, or dispensed from the Pharmacy
6. Participates in the Pharmacy clinical program and performance improvement process.
7. Ability to be at work and be on time.
8. Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
9. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
10. Ability to prioritize and multitask.
Essential Job Outcomes
1. Prepares medication for dispensation from the Pharmacy
2. Supports the direction and initiatives of the Department of Pharmacy
3. Provides pharmaceutical care in accordance with law and regulations
4. Educates oneself and trains/educates students and new staff
5. Demonstrates leadership skills that positively contribute to the Medical Center
6. Participates in the Pharmacy clinical program and performance improvement process
7. “Other duties as assigned”
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Experience
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting (preferred)
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in compounded sterile products preparation and procedures
(preferred)
Education
• Enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy (required)
• Current California Registered Pharmacy Intern license (required)
