The Pharmacy Tech Coordinator is an advance practice position, highly experienced who primarily works under the supervision of the Pharmacy Leadership team. This position works independently in a specialized function including, pharmacy automation, scheduling, operations, regulatory compliance, and assisting with competency skill validation of Pharmacy staff. Furthermore, this position is responsible for working in multiple areas of the pharmacy to assist staff in accurate and timely delivery of medications to patients. Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist this position effectively processes new orders, accesses appropriate patient information in the electronic health record (EHR), resolves issues brought to the attention of the Pharmacy relating to filling mediation cassettes in the automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and/or drug delivery bins, packages and prepares patient doses and maintains adequate drug inventory.

1. Communicates effectively with diverse patient populations to educate patients and positively contribute to their plan of care.
2. Acts as a subject matter expert in all Pharmacy Technician duties to support new and experienced staff members.
3. Follows and communicates detailed procedures to ensure accuracy in documentation and data.
4. Carefully monitors and gauges pharmacy instruments and processes, concentrating on routine work details to organize and maintain systems.
5. Coordinates education and communication with Pharmacy staff members to effectively inform and train staff on any regulation / policy changes.
6. Effectively collaborates with Pharmacy Leadership to brainstorm and research trend analysis to continuously seek improvement of inpatient Pharmacy services.
7. Allocates time and resources efficiently and effectively, prioritizes work and delegates as appropriate.

Essential Job Outcomes
1.Independently maximizes inventory turnover, prevents stock-outs, and minimizes drug wastage to optimize financial performance of the Pharmacy Department.
2. Independently uses computer and/or automation resources in an efficient and timely manner as relevant to their practice area and ensures accurate billing.
3. Complies with the laws governing the storage and maintenance of all drugs, including Schedules II-V to secure the integrity of the Pharmacy Department.
4. Creates and provides orientation/training for pharmacy technicians, students, and volunteers to promote growth and development opportunities within the Pharmacy Department. Maintains a comprehensive training program and performance audit system to evaluate pharmacy technicians’ performance in accordance with standards and policies of the Pharmacy Department.
5. Assesses compliance with regulatory requirements and ensures adequate documentations is accomplished.
6. Complies with California Board of Pharmacy Sterile Compounding standards, USP <797>, USP <800> when preparing intravenous products, to establish consistent, accurate, and timely delivery.
7. Works as needed in multiple areas and shifts of the department to help support the staffing needs of the Pharmacy Department.
8. Troubleshoots and addresses the day to day maintenance of automation hardware and software to meet operational needs and when necessary contact the appropriate person to remedy the repair of such equipment.
9. In collaboration with Pharmacy Leadership and/or Pharmacists assists staff to ensure established workload timelines are met, identifies and solves operational problems, completes special projects.

Experience
2 Years of hospital pharmacy technician inpatient experience required
Experience with scheduling of staff and assessment of staff technicians preferred


Education
Current valid / active California Registered Pharmacy Technician License required
