Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The Laboratory Supervisor assists with the daily operations of the designated Dept Sub-Section (s). The Laboratory Supervisor must be capable of performing, developing and monitoring all functions within the laboratory section including but are not limited to assuming responsibility of special projects, ensuring protocols required for accreditation. Ensuring department procedures are in compliance with federal regulations and other accreditation standards such as JCAHO, CAP, CLIA and others. Performing work assignments as scheduled in accordance with MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Laboratory Services department standards and procedures.Finally, this incumbent is responsible for the development of programs and procedures to assure the department is aligned with regulatory standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1.Coordinate and oversee the daily operation of the designated Dept Sub-Section(s). Assume responsibility of special projects and assist in the development of programs and procedures for the section.

2.Oversee staff by providing direction and positive coaching to promote positive department morale. Assist in the recruitment and retention of qualified personnel.

3.Ensure compliance at all times with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. Author, edit and review procedures relevant to section.

4.Evaluate quality control and quality assurance requirements where applicable. Actively participate with section and department process improvement initiatives for quality management. Audit and evaluate department specific processes for compliance and trends.

5.Ensure effective communication, verbally, in writing and through other means.

6.Perform data management and documentation activities.

7.Ability to be at work and be on time.

8.Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.

9.Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.

10.Ability to prioritize and multitask.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

·         Knowledge of hospital laboratory operations preferred.

·         Minimum of one year of supervisory or lead experience preferred.

·         Minimum of five years of relevant experience required.

·         Knowledge of current laboratory information system and hospital information system desired.

·         Basic computer skills preferred such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

·         High School diploma, GED or AA degree preferred. 

·         Current Certified Phlebotomist certificate by the state of California required.
