Position Summary

The Memorial Medical Center Foundation (MMCF) raises and stewards philanthropic support for Long Beach Medical Center (LBMC) and Miller Children's and Women's Hospital (MCWH). Working collaboratively with the philanthropy team and hospital staff, provides leadership and direction for major gift activity associated with MCWH and all programs supported by MMCF. Leads team of major gift officers supporting MCWH and works collaboratively with the senior leaders of development supporting Miller Children's and Women's Hospital, to increase funding support from individuals and families, and support similar efforts with corporations and foundations, to advance the mission and plans of MMCF. Functions as a thought leader and collaborative team member alongside other staff in MMCF as well as other hospital staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

Supports and operationalizes the mission statement, vision, values, and plans of the MCWH and MMCF, and actively works to enhance the reputation of MCWH and MMCF with all constituents.

Strengthens and promotes the public image, mission, philosophy and values of the organization with public and private agencies, individuals, corporations and foundations to define the role philanthropy plays in supporting research, and healthcare programs. Ensures the effective communication of organizational vision, mission and values to all constituents.

Manages and leads a team of individual giving officers and supports the overall development of individual giving strategies for MMCF in collaboration with the senior MMCF leaders, which includes but are not limited to, service line partnerships, grateful patient, prospect identification, and cultivation. Delivers results in the acquisition of new major gift commitments from individuals.

Develops, in conjunction with the foundation president, executive director of development, and others, a donor solicitation strategy for prospects and donors in their portfolio. Responsible for raising major gifts and planned gifts through outright gifts, pledges, bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and other complex gift arrangements.

Oversees, manages, and executes all aspects of high-level donor relationships for assigned donor prospects, including research, qualification, case statements, cultivation, and stewardship. Crafts and presents strategic and impactful proposals to maximize philanthropic support for the hospitals and foster sustaining relationships donors.

Responsible for developing increasing levels of involvement and support of assigned donors and prospects through regular correspondence and contacts in person, by telephone, or by mail.

Maintains a comprehensive cultivation tracking system for assigned donors and prospects. Ensures the integrity of the donor and prospect files and databases as they relate to major gifts.

Responsible for meeting assigned budget goals and performance metrics.

Actively manages a portfolio of 60 - 80 principal gift prospects.

Proactively cultivates relationships within the hospital.

Actively seeks and solicits major and planned gifts.

Develops a deep understanding of the hospital specialties programs and needs. Presents hospital strategies accurately and thoroughly to donor prospects.

Ensures MMCF fundraising activity is aligned with the hospital’s strategic and operating plans.

Consistently and accurately updates and maintains all assigned accounts in CRM (NXT).

Conducts thorough and detailed account reviews with direct report and management, as directed.

Attends and participates in fundraising activities and events, as needed.

Sets up and conducts quality major gift appointments in the field as required.

Mentor and manage direct reports.

Performs other duties as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

Bachelor's degree required.

Professional credentials or advanced degrees preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

Minimum 10 years' major or planned gift fundraising experience preferred.

Minimum 5 years' leadership experience for a significant system-wide or hospital-wide function requiring coordination among multiple departments/functions or a single large and financially significant function required.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of achieving budget required.

Understanding of, and competency in, Moves Management process required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors to develop relationships between them and the Foundation preferred.

Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas preferred.

Successful experience in prospecting and identifying new donors as well as developing, cultivation and solicitation strategies preferred
