MemorialCare Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible, robotic-trained, Thoracic Surgeon to join our well-established, physician-led medical group in Southern California. The primary clinical practice will be based at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, with opportunities to perform thoracic surgical cases at Orange Coast Medical Center and Saddleback Medical Center as part of our coordinated, multi-campus care model.

Position Responsibilities
The Thoracic Surgeon will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient surgical care for patients with diseases and disorders of the thoracic cavity. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage conditions affecting the lungs, pleura, mediastinum, esophagus, diaphragm, and chest wall
Perform a full range of general thoracic surgical procedures, including both open and minimally invasive techniques (VATS and/or robotic; 60-70% of our volume is robotic), such as lung resections, lobectomies, mediastinal mass resections, and esophageal procedures
Conduct thorough pre‑operative assessments, including review of diagnostic imaging and test results (e.g., CT scans, PET scans, pulmonary function tests), and formulate individualized surgical treatment plans
Provide postoperative management and follow‑up care, including monitoring recovery, managing complications, and coordinating ongoing care across the continuum
Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including pulmonology, oncology, gastroenterology, radiology, anesthesia, critical care, and nursing, to ensure high‑quality, coordinated patient care
Participate in inpatient consults, surgical call coverage, and rounding responsibilities at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, with additional surgical coverage at Orange Coast Medical Center and Saddleback Medical Center as clinically indicated
Educate patients and their families regarding diagnoses, surgical options, procedural risks and benefits, and postoperative recovery expectations in a clear and compassionate manner
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation in compliance with MemorialCare policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards
Support quality improvement initiatives, peer review activities, and evidence‑based practice guidelines to enhance patient outcomes and safety
Stay current with advancements in thoracic surgery techniques, technology, and best practices through continuing medical education and professional development
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery
Active California medical license (or ability to obtain)
Eligible to work in the United States
Commitment to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team
