Position Summary:

The incumbent has 24-hour responsibility for and oversight of the coordination of care for patients and families within the department.

The incumbent shall plan, organize, direct and evaluate people and activities for the department to ensure the delivery of high quality, cost effective patient care. The incumbent has fiscal responsibility for resources that are defined during the budget process. The position is accountable for human and materiel resource acquisition, maintenance and allocation as well as quality/performance improvement outcomes.

The position’s primary focus is on employees, patients, families, physicians and the key contributors from other departments who impact the services of the assigned department. The success of the department depends significantly on the incumbent’s ability to participate well with others and/or collaborate with other leaders within the Division of Nursing and the Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Director of Clinical Operations reports to the Executive Director or Vice President. The Director is accountable for planning, developing new services, policy formation, human resource management and organization, financial performance, patient care services operations, and medical management staff relations and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements within his/her

area of responsibility. In addition the Director of the assigned area is responsible to provide leadership to redesign the health care delivery structure to position the organization to be a leader in an integrated delivery network.

The Director supervises and manages the Manager of Clinical Operations as well as staff, coordinators, and assistant unit managers to coordinate the day to day operations of the department. The Director has expertise in marketing, systems/standards development, IS systems used within their departments, regulatory requirements and a broad vision of the future of the health care industry

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

3 years of active nursing practice in an area of similar clinical expertise

3-5 years prior nursing management in assigned area of clinical expertise

Demonstrated leadership skills

Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills

Ability to adapt to emergency situations

Education/Licensure/Certification:

Current California RN license

BSN required, MSN preferred; will consider masters in another related health field*

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or BSN equivalency status stated in writing from ADN to MSN program with current enrollment.

If enrollment terminates or there is a program leave of absence, a BSN diploma or transcript must be provided (BSN equivalency

language effective 3/24/11). If Candidate has an MSN, a BSN is not required.

*For Pediatrics, NICU and PICU:

Candidate shall have a master’s degree in nursing or have a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (BSN) and either a master’s

degree in a related field or certification in health care administration from a nationally recognized accrediting organization, and

have at least three years of clinical nursing experience as follows:

For Pediatric Director: two years shall be in the pediatric clinical care.

For NICU: at least one year shall have been in a facility with a NICU that is equivalent to a regional or community NICU.

For PICU: at least one year shall be in pediatric critical care nursing.
