Position Summary

Responsible for leading and coordinating biomedical engineering services within the hospital to ensure the safe, effective, and reliable performance of medical equipment. Supervises a team of biomedical technicians and works closely with clinical staff to support patient care through timely maintenance, repair, and evaluation of medical devices. Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and clinical best practices while supporting equipment planning, inventory control, and technical training initiatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1.Supervises and schedules biomedical engineering technicians, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and mentorship to ensure safe and timely service delivery.

2.Oversees scheduled maintenance (SM), testing, calibration, and repair of hospital medical devices in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, hospital policies, biomedical engineering procedures, and regulatory requirements.

3.Ensures readiness for regulatory inspections (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS) through accurate service documentation, routine audits, and compliance with NFPA 99, OSHA, and FDA regulations.

4.Responds to escalated service requests from clinical departments, provides technical support during clinical use, and ensures minimal equipment downtime impacting patient care.

5.Maintains an accurate inventory of medical equipment using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); track lifecycle data and supports capital replacement planning.

6.Coordinates with third-party service providers for contract-based equipment support, evaluates vendor performance, and manages warranty and service agreements.

7.Assists in evaluating new medical equipment acquisitions, participate in installation planning and safety testing, and ensure clinical staff readiness for new technology integration.

8.Participates in hospital safety rounds, incident investigations related to equipment failures, and multidisciplinary quality initiatives to improve patient and staff safety.

9.Travel to offsite locations (non 2801 Atlantic Locations) is required.

10.Performs other duties as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications/Work Experience:

·       Familiarity with CMS, The Joint Commission, CDPH, and NFPA 99-2012 standards required.

·       Knowledge of hospital-based clinical risk devices (therapeutic, diagnostic, analytical, and others), diagnostic procedures, and CMMS software.

·       Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport with clinical teams, prioritize competing tasks, and lead with accountability and clarity.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

·       Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline required.

·       Minimum 10 years' relevant experience required.

·       Minimum 5 years' day-to-day leadership experience required.

·       Minimum 5 years’ cyber security in a healthcare environment, including risk analysis, risk mitigation, remediation and reporting required.

·       CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or AAMI CHTM or CCE eligible and complete certification, within 90 days of employment required.
