Position Summary

The Emergency Dept Technician Phlebotomist works cooperatively with all members of the health care team performing patient care for the Emergency Department patients. Stocks supplies and performs clerical activities to assist the nurse and physician in meeting the patient care needs. Adheres to standard work and policies and procedures. Facilitates a safe, clean working environment for the Emergency Department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1. Provides direct patient care and supports the health care team members in a safe, cost-effective manner.

2. Performs patient care activities as identified on EDT competency checklist while maintaining safety, comfort and privacy.

3. Stocks and maintains supplies throughout the department.

4. Provides secretarial support.

5. Follows infection control policies/procedures.

6. Obtains/draws required blood specimen and documents collection of specimens.

7. Documents findings in patient’s medical records in compliance with unit specific standards and systems.

8. Demonstrates patient care using age specific interventions for the infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations.

9. Ability to be at work and be on time.

10. Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.

11. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.

12. Ability to prioritize and multitask.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications/Work Experience:

• Six months experience in an emergency department setting or 12 months as an ambulance preferred.

• Units/Departments may determine experience based on unit-based standards.

 

Education/Licensure/Certification:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

• BLS certification required.

• CA Phlebotomy Certification required.

• Current CA EMT-1 license preferred.
